I think that culture influences a person's actions because when they are raised a certain way, they will most likely continue those ways throughout their life. In a certain culture, many people are influenced into believing the same thing, and that is how the culture is formed. For example, the culture in a small town in Iowa is different from a big city like New York because we grew up with a certain mindset that other places might not have. The views of your culture may change based on where you are, but you will still keep some views that you had originally.

Reading the short stories has not changed my views, but strengthened what I have thought of the theme. Before reading, I believed that culture had a lot to do with how we live and make our decisions. In “The Lottery”, the events that occurred happened based on the fact that the townspeople before them had done it. None of the people found it needed, but no one made an effort to stop because it was tradition, and tradition is a component in culture. If this weren’t tradition, it probably would not take place. But because it was tradition, they found it necessary to continue only for the benefit of their culture. (Sorry, technical difficulty)
